How we Help

Our Mission

The Junior League of Olympia (JLO) is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

Creativity

Innovation has been the key to the Junior League of Olympia's success in improving the community. From creating “Little Red Schoolhouse” to deliver school supplies and clothing to local families, to implementing “Kids in the Kitchen” to empower youth to make healthy lifestyle choices, the JLO continues to deliver poignant community programming in order to meet our mission.

Passion

The Junior League of Olympia donates over $50,000 and more than 1000 volunteer hours to our community each year to fulfill our mission.

JLO reaches out to women of all races, religions, and national origins who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to voluntarism. We encourage women over the age of 21 to join us. Members of the Junior League of Olympia support each other in a three-pronged approach to community service and collaboration: 1. Advocacy & Education; 2. Community Projects; and 3. Fundraising

Community Service

Through Advocacy and Community Service, Junior League fulfills our mission in 3 distinct ways:

  1. Training: We train our members to be effective community volunteers.
  2. Community Programs: Junior League supports our community partners through a variety of programs.

Testimonials

These events would not have been possible without the support and sponsorship of the Junior League of Olympia. Thank you!! We look forward to more successful collaborations in the future.

Gail Gosney, Coordinator, Thurston County Network

Thank you again for the long-term commitment Junior League has made to helping the children of Evergreen Vista. The children I am serving often go to bat with two strikes against them, but with the help and encouragement of groups like the Junior League I believe that these children will be successful because it takes only one strike to hit the ball!

At any given point, more than 10,000 children and youth are in Washington state foster care system; The Mockingbird Society and Junior League of Olympia are teaming up to improve the lives of children, youth and families by changing policy and practice for foster care.  JLO is forward thinking in its support for The Mockingbird Family Model; an extended family --- or "Grandma's house" to support foster youth and families.  And, we are working together on to support reforms such as safe housing for youth aging out and increased safety policies for youth while in care.

Jim Theofelis, Executive Director, The Mockingbird Society

The work that Junior League has done for the foster children in Thurston County continues to touch everyone who attends these events young and old. The time and energy that is put into purchasing the one gift a graduate needs, or decorating cookies with a foster child at the Holiday party can’t be measured. Be assured that the appreciation and gratitude goes out to Junior League of Olympia from the Social Workers, foster parents and foster kids of Thurston County.
