OLYMPIA – (Feb. 1, 2017) Managing stress at home, fatherhood and transitioning into the teen years are on the top of your mind and are at the top of the agenda at Community Summit 2017.
The Junior League of Olympia is hosting its fifth annual Community Summit, a day of free parenting education from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Feb. 25 at South Puget Sound Community College’s Lacey Campus.
Lunch and childcare are included with pre-registration.
Each year, the event is building resilient children and resilient communities.
The league seeks to make resiliency a reality through building a community and facilitating discussions with Thurston County parents, educators and our neighbors, said Jessi Doerpinghaus, Community Summit chairwoman.
With something for every learning style, the event includes a keynote session, breakout workshops and a community conversation facilitated by Thurston Thrives.
“Community Summit will give you the tools for parenting in today’s modern world,” Doerpinghaus said.
The keynote speaker will be Emily McMason, parenting coach and mommy blogger at Evolving Parents.
A resource fair with several local organizations will provide opportunities and resources for all Thurston County children and families.
The Junior League of Olympia is a group of about 200 women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its focus area is the prevention of child abuse and neglect.
“Community Summit opens the door for conversations and brainstorming with one another about how to make our communities better for our children to grow and thrive,” said Connie Guthrie, VP of Community for the league. “Participating in the event is a fun investment in their futures that will reap significant rewards for generations to come.”
